These flags represent just a few of the West Indian islands. People from these islands have and continue to call Preston their home. Different islanders have set up associations to help their fellow and other islanders in their hour of need. There are three island assocations in existence at present. They are The Barbados Association, Monsteratt and Friends Association and the Jamaican National Association.
The Caribbean islands are made up of seven thousand islands, islets, reefs and cays. These islands are generally known as the West Indies following Christopher Columbuss belief that he reached India in Asia. The West Indies have been divided into twenty seven territories which include sovereign states, overseas departments and dependencies. Between 1958 and 1962 ten of these islands took part in the short lived Federation of the West Indies.
